Mother tells rock star Gallagher brothers to end feud

The papers claim: "Liam confronted the defendant (Noel) both verbally and physically, swearing and screaming at him."

The singer then allegedly began "swinging a guitar around like an axe, nearly smashing the defendant in the face with it". Noel was said to regard the behaviour as "the last straw".

Noel also claims that Liam left abusive voicemail messages on his wife Sara's phone.

Liam launched a libel suit earlier this year after Noel accused him of missing a performance in Chelmsford because he was hung over. Noel later apologised and admitted Liam was in fact diagnosed with laryngitis.

Last night a spokesman for Liam told the Mirror: "After Noel apologised the matter is now in the hands of lawyers."

The brothers' notorious feuding dates back to the earliest days of the band's success.

At the height of their fame in 1995 a recording of their interview with a music journalist which descended into an expletive-laden row was released as a bootleg single.
