London 2012 Olympics: Beatles may 'reunite' for Olympics performance, hints Paul McCartney

"The Beatles are loved all over the world so it's a no brainer that they should be represented at the Olympics."

The opening ceremony is set to be directed by Oscar-winning film-maker Danny Boyle, famous for his box office smash, Slumdog Millionaire. Boyle has made no secret of the fact that he wants the Games to be kicked off with a blockbuster showcase of British talent.

Speaking about his vision for the Games, Boyle said: "Music has to play a big part in the ceremony. For such a small country, we have the most extraordinary tradition of music, and people look to Britain as a beacon of music."

Other acts reportedly being considered for opening ceremony performances include double Grammy Award-winner Adele, whose songs such as the appropriatly-titled Hometown Glory have been hits across the globe, and the Spice Girls, the most succesful British band since the Beatles.
