Sir John Keegan, the esteemed former defence editor of The Daily Telegraph, has received some joyful news.

The 77-year-old author, who has been seriously ill, has been told by his daughter, the actress Rose Keegan, that she has, finally, become engaged after an eight-year romance.

?I?m just not very good at making decisions,? jokes Rose, who appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. She is to marry James McCarthy, 40, a graphic designer.

?We met at an Australian-themed fancy dress party, I was Nicole Kidman and he was an Aussie Rules football player, breakdancing in the middle of the room.?
