The 49-year-old mother of four won plaudits for her remarkable live reports from the back of a truck with a rebel convoy amid the fall of Tripoli earlier this year.
She said it was a ?fantastic accolade? for the whole team behind her broadcasts.
?I am staggered and honoured and can't quite believe this is not a prank thought up by one of my more mischievous colleagues,? she said.
?TV news is never about just one person. Behind me and beside me are my fellow reporters, producers, camera crews, editors and directors.?
There was also an MBE for the actor David Harewood, whose credits include the 2006 film Blood Diamond, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
The impact of reality television is also recognised in this year?s honours list with a knighthood for Peter Bazalgette, the television executive who brought Big Brother to the UK.
He also devised a string of lifestyle shows such as Ground Force and Ready Steady Cook.
"To receive a knighthood is a delightful compliment and I'm acknowledging it as recognition for television's thriving independent production sector in general," he said.
Meanwhile there was a CBE for Paul Smith, the founder of Celador Entertainment, which created Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
Meanwhile Steve Lillywhite, the record producer who put U2 on the road to fame and worked with The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads and Liam Gallagher, has been awarded a CBE.
He said he was ?flabbergasted? by his honour.
?Who else from the world of punk rock has got one?? he asked.
?It just seems outrageous for a man who worked with Siouxsie And The Banshees and The Lurkers to get one of these.?
