Andrea Riseborough [on phone] : "So, yeah I'm gonna wear a green sequinned, calf-length dress to the premiere of W.E. at the Toronto Film Festival tomorrow..."

On paper it sounds horrific. I bet even on the hanger it looks like a no-no. And yet this week the British actress Andrea Riseborough turned green sequins from something only to be permitted for the salsa number on Strictly Come Dancing to a contemporary fashion statement.
It's the length of Dolce & Gabbana's dress what does it - the hem falling below the knee, tricksy, shouldn't work but somehow does - and the long sleeves. Importantly, it's the right shade of green - jade, also seen this season on that fabulous Marc by Marc Jacobs silk day dress.
Everything else is pared down - black shoes and clutch and black shiny hair. Riseborough was clearly aware that a red lip and an up-do and Bruno Tonioli might have been calling.
