Roasts are odd things. They basically consist of a celebrity being ridiculed by their peers in front of an audience and television cameras. It?s intended to be funny but often merely winds up cringeworthy. That said, they continue to be popular, with Dean Martin hosting a series in the Seventies, stars such as Hugh Hefner, Gene Simmons, Pamela Anderson, William Shatner and Donald Trump taking part in the US version, and Bruce Forsyth and Sharon Osbourne being the subjects of the UK one.
